Who is a Good Candidate for Dentures?

Dentures are generally a suitable option for anyone who is without multiple missing teeth or an entire arch. As one of the more versatile tooth replacement options available, they serve as a popular non-surgical option that delivers beautiful results.

To determine your eligibility for treatment, though, you must schedule a consultation with one of our dentists. They will fully examine your mouth using advanced imaging and a visual evaluation as well as go over your health history. Based on our findings, we will recommend the best type of restorative care and discuss a timeline for treatment so that you do not experience further jawbone resorption or tooth loss.

Types of Dentures

Full dentures

Depending on how many teeth you have lost, your oral and overall health, and your jawbone density, we will recommend one of three denture options during your consultation:

Partial Dentures

When you are missing multiple teeth along an arch, we can fill in the gaps with a partial denture. Crafted with an acrylic base that incorporates a metal framework, the prosthetic also includes artificial teeth that are affixed to the base, effectively filling in the areas of your smile that were once lost. Metal clasps help hold the device in place, as it attaches to healthy abutment teeth along the arch, but it can be easily removed when it’s time to clean your mouth.

Full Dentures

When you are without a complete set of teeth along the upper or lower arch (or both), we can have a full denture created to rebuild your smile. We will use the same materials to create this custom prosthetic; however, it will not come with a metal framework, as full dentures rely on natural suction and adhesive to remain firmly in place. What you are left with is a firmer bite and improved appearance.

Implant Dentures

Vastly different from traditional dentures are those that attach to dental implants. Once 4-6 titanium posts are surgically placed within your jawbone, we can have a custom denture created and secured over the top of your implants, creating a stable, durable, and longer-lasting set of teeth. Implant dentures are known to have a lifespan of 30+ years and prevent further jawbone resorption because of the stimulation delivered by the titanium posts.

The Benefits of Dentures

Dentures restore the appearance and function of the teeth. They are lifechanging for those who have lost most of or all of their teeth. By choosing dentures to replace your missing teeth, you can experience a wide range of benefits. Here are some of the exciting ones that you can look forward to.

Psychological Benefits

Tooth loss can be a difficult reality to accept. Many people who have lost most of or all of their teeth experience negative effects on their self-esteem, resulting in higher levels of sadness and depression. When you restore your smile with dentures, you can improve how you feel and how you look. This reduces anxieties about your appearance, speech, chewing ability, and more.

Clearer Enunciation

Producing certain sounds and saying some words can be a challenge when you have gaps in your smile. To enunciate your words clearly, your lips and tongue need to be positioned properly. When you are missing teeth, your tongue isn’t in the ideal position, making it challenging to say certain words. Because dentures act like missing teeth, they allow you to speak more clearly.

Improves Nutrition

Lots of nutrient-dense foods are tough in texture, like proteins, fruits, and vegetables. If you can’t chew your food properly, your eating habits could be negatively affected. Dentures make it easier to bite and chew healthy foods, allowing you to enjoy a nutritious diet and promote overall health.

Preserves Oral Health

If you still have healthy natural teeth, dentures can help to keep them in ideal condition. By filling in the gaps with a partial denture, you can keep your teeth securely in place. Dentures also help to support the weight of routine chewing, reducing wear and tear of the natural teeth over time.

Expands Opportunities

When you attend interviews, negotiate sales, attend social events, making an excellent first impression is key. Your smile is one of the first things that people notice about you, so having one that appears healthy does nothing but help. Studies have shown that the possibility of being employed is negatively associated with poor oral health.
