In today’s market of energy drinks, electrolyte water and powered mixes, some beverages marketed as healthy drinks could actually be wreaking havoc on your teeth with their sugary ingredients.
Men’s Health advises avoiding these sugar-filled concoctions next time you hit the drink aisle.
1. Worst Energy Drink – Rockstar Energy Drink
With the sugar equivalent of 6 Krispy Kreme Glazed Doughnuts, or nearly half as much sugar as an entire box of Nilla Wafers, Rockstar also packs higher caloric counts than competitors like Red Bull and Monster. Men’s Health recommends skipping this drink and trying Monster Lo-Card with just 20 calories, all of the caffeine, plus B vitamins with much less sugar.
2. Worst Bottled Tea – SoBe Green Tea
We know green tea contains the antioxidant “catechin” that prevents plaque and reduces the signs of gum disease, but this green tea imposter has so many additives, the dental benefits are completely wiped out. With enough sugar to equal four slices of Sara Lee Cherry Pie, opt for Honest Tea Green Dragon Tea if you prefer bottle teas.
3. Worst Water – Snapple Agave Melon Antioxidant Water
It’s true, there really is a “worst water.” Essentially, with this option, Snapple gives you a sugary water mixture with a few extra vitamins, equaling two good humor chocolate éclair bars. Instead, get the electrolytes you want with the unnecessary damaging extras with Smartwater.
Remember, even the better options may still contain some sugars and proper at-home oral care plus regular dental visits are the best methods to keep your teeth strong and healthy! Our suggestion is to drink water, good old fashioned, fluoride-containing water, readily available from your faucet.
