New England Apple Picking: A Fall Tradition That Will Keep You Smiling!
Nothing says fall in New England quite like an afternoon of apple picking! Our hygienists weighed in and here are the top picks for apple picking farms around Boston.
Berlin Orchards – Rt. 62 and Lower Sawyer Hill Road, Berlin
With Mutsu, Macoun, Macs, Cortland, Gala, Golden Supreme, Red Delicious and Jonagold apples available along with fun hay wagons to take the family out the orchard, we love Berlin Orchards. The kids will also love face painting, bouncy games, ice cream, ponies rides and pumpkin painting.
Boston Hill Farm – Route 114, North Andover
More than just an orchard, Boston Hill is the perfect spot to keep the whole family entertained with a pumpkin patch, hayrides, fantastic bakery and deli for a tasty lunch and even a petting zoo. You can also take home great seasonal décor from the gift shop.
Cider Hill Farm – 45 Fern Ave, Amesbury
With all sorts of produce to enjoy, including the apples, Cider Hill offers up everything from beets to blueberries to squash and more! They have many apple varieties so you can pick you favorites and the corn maze is a must try!
Belkin Lookout Farm – 89 Pleasant Street South, South Natick
One of the oldest working farms in the country, Belkin has activities to fill the entire day: pick your own fruit, enjoy train rides, a moon bounce, caterpillar rides (rubber–tire train that takes riders along a scenic path around the Children’s Play Area), a burlap maze and a hay pyramid – plus children under two years old get free admission! Combine the fun of apple picking with all these outdoor adventures for a perfect crisp, New England fall day.
Once you get your apple haul home, we REALLY love the health benefits of this fantastic fall fruit. “Apples are rich in disease-fighting antioxidants and amino acids, which can help boost muscle growth” MSN Health; plus, for an oral health perk, eating apples stimulates saliva production that can help remove other food particles and minimize bacteria build-up that can become plaque. Take the family and spend the weekend outdoors at any of these great fall apple picking spots, your teeth thank you!
